Well, this weekend got a little crazy…John Kohler from Growing Your Greens sent me a random Facebook message letting me know he’d be out in San Diego, CA this weekend and that he wanted to do a tour of the Epic Gardening headquarters.

My jaw dropped…I ‘grew up’ as a gardener watching his videos! He did a full hour tour of my garden which you can see on his channel, but I just had to sit him down and get some gardening wisdom from the man, the myth, the legend…JOHN KOHLER!

After two weeks of keeping you in suspense I’m showing you around the NEW garden space. At our new home we have a patio and backyard garden space that reflects the size that a lot of people have to garden with. It’s actually the perfect size for a home garden especially since I have such a large allotment garden to maintain — so YES, I’m definitely keeping that too.

This is the first video that will become a series on how I transform the space from a traditional lawn into an edible landscape.

In this video:
✽ Looking at what trees and plants are already established
✽ The sunny paved patio
✽ Seeing what pots and items the previous owners left
✽ Greenhouses — why I sold my current one and the one already at the new house
✽ Ideas for paths and an archway
✽ The reason why I’m not going to film the front garden

For a look at the larger allotment vegetable garden check out this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvcIjhASxid6KWV0Apzu49CtectT7KSRO

Saving your own seeds is the ultimate in self-sufficiency. Every gardener should give it a go!

Over time, saving seeds from your best plants can result in vegetables that are perfectly suited to your garden’s growing conditions. This means stronger, healthier plants – and bigger harvests!

In this short video we show you just how easy it is to save seeds from veggie garden staples such as beans, lettuce, onions and peppers.

For saving tomato seeds, see our video: How to save your own tomato seeds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbVcHLpHxKg

Buy the raised beds I use in my garden: https://https://bit.ly/3JOSOT2/ If you’re like me and don’t have a lot of space to grow, it REALLY matters how you use the little space you have. Enter high-density planting. You can use methods like Square Foot Gardening for your spacing, but the general idea is to cram as much as you can into a small amount of space, while still retaining enough space between plants so they don’t bother each other.

When in doubt…plant closer together than you think. You can ALWAYS thin out, but you can’t “thicken” out.

This has probably been the most hectic week I’ve had in years. Maybe ever! We’re redecorating a house AND slowly moving our things to the new place all the while trying to keep on top of work. This week I’ve hosted a succulent terrarium workshop, sold my greenhouse, been bringing plants to the allotment to plant out, and most time consuming of all – choosing paint colours. Guys, I need a holiday!

In this video:
✽ A look at a few things growing in the allotment garden
✽ Pallet Cucumber Trellis
✽ New berries on the Mara des Bois strawberry plants
✽ Some video from the succulent terrarium workshop
✽ A walk around the new house to see how far we’ve come in painting

Fall 2018 is coming soon, and the garden is looking a bit worse for the wear. I’ve pulled all of my lingering summer crops and am in a planning phase for the next season. Part of that planning is clearing out some of my loquat tree vegetation to let more sun through to the back beds on my land.

Pruning loquats is simple, but there are 1-2 little tips that can help you if it’s your first time with them.
