It’s that time of the year again — honey extracting time! I have a video from a few years ago showing my process but I thought I’d take you on a tour around the Honey Shed. Extracting honey is a messy business so it’s great to have a dedicated space for it. This video shows you the set-up and introduces some of the tools and methods used in extracting honey from the honeycomb.

LEARN HOW TO CURE AND SAVE GLADIOUS/GLADIOLI/GLADIOLA CORMS FOR NEXT SEASON…VERY EASY N SIMPLE…:)
How To Grow Gladiolus/Gladioli/Gladiola Bulbs(WITH UPDATES)
LINK:-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnZcAaUtA1Q
Daizz’s tips:-Many people make the mistake of digging up gladiolus corms too early by doing it before the foliage has died. After a gladiolus flower spike is done blooming, the plant concentrates its energy into the corm at the base of the stem.

Knowing when to dig up gladiolus corms might be the trickiest part, but it’s generally safe if you wait until all of the plant matter has turned brown and died back. Once the foliage is brown, you can start gently digging up the gladiolas corms from the soil.

Dig the corms of gladiolus using a garden fork or spade, digging far enough away so that you don’t touch the corm. Pull the plant by its dried leaves and shake it gently to remove any loose dirt. You may see some miniature corms growing on the bottom, which you can grow into full-sized plants in a couple of years.

The next step in gladiolus winter care is to “cure” the gladiolus corms. Leave dug corms on top of the soil for two days to allow them to dry. Transfer the corms to a cardboard box and place it in a warm dry place with good air circulation, at about 85 F. (29 C.). Keep the corms here for about two weeks to allow them to dry completely.

Separate the parts of the corm after they are dry. Gladiolus forms a new corm on top of last year’s old one, and you’ll be able to separate the two after drying, as well as removing the cormlets. Discard the old corm, and place the new corms and cormlets back into cardboard boxes, after removing any excess dirt you may find. At this time, you can also cut the dead foliage off.

VINCA ROSEA/PERIWINKLE/SADABAHAR PLANT IS VERY EASY TO GROW ..FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE TIPS FOR BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS ALL YEAR LONG…:)
The two most common garden and potting plants given the familiar name periwinkle, Vinca minor and Vinca major, have similar care needs. Both can be grown in the ground as ground cover or in pots as a low-growing and trailing plant that accentuates taller pot plants.
daizz’s tips:-
1.)Use any potting soil mixed with 20% sand in your Vinca periwinkle’s pot. These are hardy plants tolerant of most soil types as long as the mix drains well. The sand helps create a soil that drains easily.
2.)Plant the Vinca periwinkle along the edges of your pot, encircling the taller plants in the middle. This is a trailing plant that grows out of the pot. If planted in the middle, it may overgrow inside the pot and prevent other plants in the pot from thriving.
3.)Add mulch to the top of the soil to protect the Vinca periwinkle and other plants from extreme temperatures and keep the soil moist.
4.)Place the pot in a spot where it gets partial sun. Vinca periwinkle grows best in mostly shade but flowers best with more sunlight. However, too much direct afternoon sunlight can burn the plant.
5.)Prune the Vinca periwinkle regularly. In optimal conditions, the plant grows beyond the pot without stopping. You can cut it back anytime of the year and to the length you prefer the vine to be at.
6.)Add fertilizer to the pot in the spring after the last frost. This is the start of the growing season for Vinca periwinkle. You can use any general-purpose fertilizer per the instructions on the label.
7.)Water as needed to keep the soil moist in the summer. In the winter, you do not need to water as often, because Vinca periwinkle does not grow much during the colder months.

Two simple ways to make your own ollas. These traditional self-watering vessels are low-tech, easy to DIY, and will help keep plants watered in the driest conditions. The way it works is that you bury the pots into the ground near plants that need regular watering. Top up the water in the vessel rather than the soil around the plant. Moisture seeps through the terracotta, and eventually, the plant’s roots will grow right up to the pot. They’ll suck moisture directly from it.

The first way to make an Olla takes only a few minutes, and the second more permanent DIY takes a day. You can also use a cork to fill the hole, as you can see in my olla update video for using these self-watering pots outside in the garden: https://youtu.be/wBxlyxWJ-iE

THE SECRETS OF BOUGAINVILLEA: To grow a lush bougainvillea that produces prolific blooms for which it is known, just follow these simple tips…:)

DAIZZ’S TIPS:-Bougainvillea is a hardy tropical vine that grows in areas where winter temperatures remain above 30 degrees F. (-1 C.). The plant usually produces three rounds of vibrant blooms in spring, summer and autumn. If you don’t have growing space or live in a suitable climate, you can plant bougainvillea in a pot.
SUNLIGHT/LOCATION:-
Place a bougainvillea in an area with at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. A sunny porch or south-facing window might be the ideal location. If grown indoors, in shade or partial shade, you will have nice vegetative growth, but little or no bloom. If possible, keep your bougainvillea outdoors, and keep in mind that southern exposure is ideal. If you’re planting the bougainvillea in a container, make sure to choose one with plenty of drainage holes, since bougainvillea hate to have “wet feet.”

SOIL:-
Bougainvillea has an extremely fine root system, and should be planted in well-drained soils. Avoid soil mixes with high peat levels and water retention. These types of media retain too much water and will contribute to root rot; be sure to select a well-draining media so make sure the soil drains quite well. They need rich soil that is slightly acidic, with pH between 5.5 and 6.0.
•Add limestone to the soil to increase the pH or sulphur, coffee or white vinegar to decrease the pH as necessary.
FERTILIZER:-
Bougainvillea is a heavy feeder and requires regular fertilization to produce blooms throughout the growing season. – Feed the plant a fertilizer every few months to keep the flowers blooming. Organic or slow-release fertilizers work best. Most bougainvillea gardeners go with a 20:20:20 or a 10:10:10 fertilizer for regular fertilizing
WATER:-
Bougainvillea plants weaken with too much watering, ending up with all leaf growth in place of flowers. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, providing water only when the soil is dry to the touch about 3 or 4 inches deep into the soil. water enough to keep the soil damp, but not so much that you leave the plant waterlogged.
PRUNING:-
Bougainvillea plants are prolific growers and need good pruning to force blooming and retain a pretty shape. After the bougainvillea has finished blooming for the season, cut it back by a few inches. This will promote healthy growth
WINTER CARE:-
If you live in a climate that gets cold in the winter, and you planted your bougainvillea in a pot, bring it inside for the winter. If you leave it outside it will not survive the harsh weather
